Doctor Wolf Schwartz Talks about Bone Grafts and Sinus Augmentation
Bone graft procedures have become so popular now. Every day, there’s something new coming on. We can, as I said before, if you put out a tooth and it’s non-functional, the bone disappears. It atrophies like any part of the body that doesn’t function. So there may not be enough bone for the implant. It may be near your nerve, it may be near your sinus. So we can actually grow bone. We have different kinds of bone we use. What really happens is as we graft that material, your bone takes over, eats that up and produces your own bone. So after, like, six to nine months, you’ve got full bone back where you want it. We use tenting screws and membranes to help us. It’s pretty complex, but it really works fantastically well.
